SARAWAK: The group draw for the Sarawak leg of Piala Cahya Mata 2026 has been finalised, locking in 32 local teams for Malaysia's largest amateur community football tournament.
The nationwide competition has attracted 256 teams with 6,400 players from across nine states.
The draw marks the next milestone for the tournament organised by Cahya Mata Sarawak.
It is a community-level football tournament which has been expanded nationwide. It is meant to give local and amateur players a competitive platform, with zero registration fee and more than RM700,000 in prize money.
The action begins in Seremban on July 5, followed by concurrent opening matches in Sarawak and other states on July 18.
To boost competition and inclusivity, the tournament also introduced the Challenger's Cup at the state level.
Each state champion will win RM20,000 and advance to the grand finals in Kuching this November to compete for the RM100,000 grand prize.
To prevent immediate elimination, teams defeated in their opening match will enter the "Challenger's Cup" secondary bracket to play for a RM2,000 top prize.
